First of all, I do not work for Carter and am getting nothing for this.
I have been playing pedal steel for 25 years and never, until now, have had a brand new pedal steel.
I ordered a D-10 with 9 floors and 7 knee levers. It is not an in-stock steel, but I received it in less than 30 days.
I could not be happier.
It looks great and plays fantastic.I ordered the George L's Traditional Premium Pole Piece Pickups ("TPPPP") and am tickled to death at the tone they give.
The sound coming out of this guitar far surpasses anything that I have ever played or owned and that includes an MSA, MCI, ZUM and a couple of other ones.
No matter where you pick this guitar, the sound comes out EVEN.
The 1st thing my wife said (and she has been around pedal steels and paid attention to them for over 30 years), is that she could hear all of the strings as I played them.
Whether you are trying to tear up the 10th string on the C6 or do the pretty stuff on the top triad on fret 26, the tone is CLEAN and CLEAR.And the mids are there all the way across the strings and up the fretboard.
Someone said earlier that they would compare the tone of these new pickups to a tube amp.I'm not sure that I would say it that way, but it has a bite and a growl that just flat sends shivers up and down my spine.
You guys who have been playing awhile know that most of the time when you're playing, it's just regular stuff and kind of rare when you get that shiver.
But, Saturday night I got the shivers 3 or 4 times. What a pleasure to have something scratch your back when you ask it to.
THANKS, BUD CARTER!!!!!!!
P.S. (August 1997)
I still like my Carter EVEN after a couple of months of playing it.
Now isn't that something.
If I ever figure out how to use all the gadgets that I ordered on it, I'll even like it better. :-)Several folks have told me that it sounds real close to a 65-67 Emmons.
And it has a bite in the tone that just flat grabs you. What a pleasure to have an instrument that you can count on.
