To get the most out of these Sound Files, they should be used to compare the difference between the intonation and variations from pickup to pickup. Your guitar will most likely not sound exactly the same as the Carter used for these Sound Files. However, the variation and direction of difference will be approximately the same. In other words, if a pickup Sound File seems or sounds more "edgey" than another, that difference will be the same no matter what guitar those pickups are used on. One other way to say this is the sounds are useful for differences, but not for absolutes. One helpful hint we found when testing and listening to these Sound Files is to move away from and off to the side of the speakers. The difference in the files then becomes more pronounced. Here Is How We Made the Comparison Sound Files:
- Hear the tone, sound, and sustain of all seven of the different pickups commonly used in Carter Steel Guitars.
- All files were done by the same steel guitarist, Billy Phelps.
- All files were done using the same tune.
- All files were done using the same D-10, Carter Steel Guitar.
Only the E9th neck pickup was changed.- All of these .MP3 files are CD Quality sound and can be played using a variety of free players including the RealAudio G2 media player. Check out www.mp3.com to download FREE players.
- The recordings were done by Billy Phelps using the following equipment:
- Carter D-10
- Carter Volume Pedal
- Peavey Nashville 112 (direct out of the pre-amp section)
